Our Power Source

“Quit unplugging the chord from the wall, ya dummy”.

Those were my thoughts as I watched Browder unplug the tv chord from the wall. He just wanted to watch his favorite show “Clifford the Big Red Dog” but he would get distracted by that awesome chord in the wall…because they are so fun…and dangerous. He would unplug the chord from the wall and then get mad when he realized Clifford was no longer on the TV. I would plug the chord back in the wall, put the trash can in front of the chord and tell him “no”. “Woof, woof” he would say and do a little happy dance when Clifford was back on. Then his sweet little 15-month-old self would go to the wall, exert all his energy to move the trash can, unplug the chord and then throw a fit again when Clifford was gone.

I just laughed. Now, he is NOT allowed to play with chords or outlets but we are still in that phase of teaching but I just laughed. He is getting so mad but he is the reason for his circumstance. He keeps unplugging from the source.

Then I realized, I am the big dummy. I have a history of unplugging from my source…God. I get distracted by my friends, my family, chores, or sleep and push my time from the Lord off to the side.  I get mad when I feel at odds. I feel out of balance. My attitude gets lousy. I get frustrated but I am the reason that is happening.

When I’m not plugged in to the Word of God it is easy for the world to sneak in. I put myself in danger…you know like playing with a chord that I could get wrapped around my neck or risk electrocution. I start losing my peace, my focus and it can so quickly become my witness.

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”- Joshua 1:8-9

I am the dumb one. God did not take a step back; I did. I can only get mad at myself. When we stay focused on God, everything works as it should. Now, it does not mean our lives will be perfect and everything will go our way but we will have peace in the storm. We are meant to rely on God.

Let’s quit unplugging from our power source.
