A Little at a Time

It’s so funny how the Lord reveals Himself sometimes in the most mundane of tasks.

Browder has discovered table foods. You cannot feed that boy fast enough. Every meal and snack is cut up in small bites so, you know, he doesn’t choke. Recently, he started grabbing for the big piece of uncut food. It’s all he wants once he sees it so I have to hide the food until he is done eating the small pieces he can handle.

This morning while feeding him his Peanut Butter Sandwich, he was satisfied with his little pieces until he saw the rest of the sandwich. He started whining and trying to fight me for that sandwich, you know, the one that could potentially harm him.

Now, I probably could have given him the uncut half because he does take bites and the Peanut Butter and bread dissolve pretty easily with water but you see wherever there is food there is Rowdy the dog. Browder likes to share his food with Rowdy and Browder just thinks that Rowdy is sharing with him too. If I were to give Browder the full sandwich then it would be easier for Rowdy to snatch the whole sandwich out of his hand. Or, Browder could get distracted and leave his sandwich unattended. Anyone with a dog knows that there is no such thing as unattended food.
I laughed and said , “Browder just be happy with the pieces you have in front of you. You could choke on this piece”.

Then it dawned on me….what if God does the same with us?! God could be laughing at us saying, “child if only you knew, I’m giving you what you need. If I give you bigger pieces it {insert money, jobs, success, etc.} will harm you or someone else will devour it”. It’s so easy to get upset when a door doesn’t open but God could be protecting us from what lays behind that door.

One thing that has become very apparent the last several months is what God gives, He can take away (Job 1:21). Why is it so hard for us sometimes to just focus and be thankful for what we do have?!

The Psalms uses the phrase “give thanks to the Lord for His love endures forever” 26 times….26! Browder will understand one day why I give him a little at a time. He will understand I’m not just being a mean Mommy. So let’s thank God because His love endures forever!
